 Flora
Through the surface of the zone, four types of vegetation are located, two of them predominate; first we can find the scrubland compose by great fleshy steam cactaceous of cylindrical or flattened shape like: cardon, yucca, bishop´s weed, choya, pitahaya, garambullo, and jojoba.
Desert Flora
The low forest is determined by small trees of less than 15 mts of height. There´s abundance of thorny leguminous species and generally they can be found in deep grounds, they are located in the eastern slope, which presents major precipitation, than the western one, the most characteristic species are: “torote,”palo de Adán”, ashy limberbush, the green wood, the white wood, the cardon, choya, the gobernadora, pitahaya and jojoba.
Finally, in the high part of Sierra Laguna, where the rainfall exceeds 600 millimeters per year, forests of pine and encino grow in variable proportions as a result of temperate or semi-cold climate over deep grounds; the dominant species are: black holm oak, pine, madrone and dessert spoon.
Fauna
The distribution of the wild fauna is related to the different types of predominate vegetation as well as to the altitude or orography. In the plains where the vegetation scardes can be found several species of birds, rodents, carnivores and herbivores, such as the " chacuaca" or quail, huilota dove, hare, rabbit, coyote and vixen, In the desert regions, with a dense vegetation of shrubs and scrubs, generally we can locate animals like the torcaza dove, the raccoon, cacomixtle, the wild cat, coyote and the vixen.
 Mule Deer (Odocoileus Hemionus)
Also, several species of birds like the eagle, the " aura" or buzzard, the sparrowhawk, owl and the crow.
In the highest mountain can be found, among others, animals like the
band-tailed pigeon, the pitorreal, the mule deer, skunk, vixen and the puma living mostly where deer abound, since these are their main food. Also innumerable reptiles inhabitate all over the region, like the " cachoras" or small lizards, iguanas and the different species of vipers, standing out the rattlesnake, mexican pine snake, milk snake and the chirrionera.
Californian sea lion
As far as marine fauna concerns , the californian sea lion has been taken as representative turistic attraction of La Paz , worthy representative of the municipality and the state.
