Art in rock
Painting: In la Paz we can find archaeological zones that testify the presence of human groups , as it shows in cave paintings such as :
La Grieta or Piedra de los Pescaditos(The Crack or The stone of the little fishes); the cliff "Piedra Pintada" (painted rock); La Piedra de los Monos(The rock of monkeys); the cliffs of Rincón de San Antonio; La Boca de San Pedro and las Cuevas de las Calaveras (Skulls cave).
Museums
In the Cultural Unit “Jesús Castro Agúndez” you will find the Theater of the City and La Rotonda de los Sudcalifornianos Ilustres. On the other side is the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History, created in 1981, which has two main rooms, one for the exhibition of archaeological rest of the tribes who inhabited the peninsula (guaycuras, pericues and cochimies) and the other is dedicated to display the national and foreign artists work.
Celebrations, dances and traditions
Popular celebrations: Civic commemorations of national and regional character are celebrated; in addition, on May 13th fairs take place and other activities commemorating the foundation of the city of La Paz, and on January 24th the city celebrates the Day of Our Lady of La Paz.
Dances: Some of the typical dances in San Antonio are ”Suegra y la Cuera" and “Viudita”.
Music: Some known melodies with regional origin are: “Costa azul” (Blue coast), “Paraíso oculto” (Hidden paradise), “Tierra Guaycura” (Guaycura land), “Puerto Ilusión” (Port of Ilusion) and “Vals sobre las nubes” (Waltz over the clouds).
Hand Crafts
In the community “El Triunfo” the palm is used to weave hats, bags, boxes, fans and vases. In San Pedro de la Presa knives are elaborated, as well as spurs, machetes, daggers and belts. Other usual materials used for crafts are shells, horn of cow, carey and calf leather; finally, theres a little pottery work, as well as saddlery. Nowadays some craftsmen recycle the material of old cars to manufacture knives of great beauty and quality.
Typical Dresses
The typical dress of the city is also used for the rest of the state; the man wears trousers of denim and camisole of the same fabric, covered by a closed layer of chamois denominated “cuera”, goes generally complemented with chamois booties, spurs and leggins of calf leather. The body is fitted with a leather bow named “faja cuero” and the hat is made of palm, covered by leather or suede with a strap.
The women outfit is completed by a red semicircular skirt , trimmed in the inferior part by a white frounce; white blouse with oval neck and a green pitahaya plant as adornment that comes upwards from the border of the skirt to the inner height of the bust in three ramifications, ending each ramification with a cactus flower (Flor de Pitahaya).
An alternative female typical dress has a white caperina accessorized with tulle, skirt, blouse and sandals of leather.
Gastronomy
Candies: Guava candy, mango candy, pitahaya candy and powdered brown sugar.
