 The Sea of Cortés is home for countless species of marine plants and animals, forming such a unique ecosystem that it was baptized by Jacques Cousteau as “The Aquarium of the World.” Dotted with underwater mountains and canyons, the Sea of Cortés circulates huge amounts of nutrient-enriched water, producing seasonally heavy plankton blooms which in turn contribute to the massive diversity of tropical and pelagic fish found throughout its waters.

La Paz its well known for being a paradisiac place where you can come down relax and enjoy life at it's best. At night La Paz also offers you fun and excellent places where you can go out and leave all your problems away, here you can find a big variety of bars and night clubs that you can visit. Most of our best night live places are located along the well know "Malecon" and you can easily walk around finding one excellent place after another.

On highway 1 to the south, at 48 km (30 mi) from La Paz you will find El Triunfo. This is a small town that operated gold and silver mines during the colonial times. In 1878, the El Progresso Mining Company started to work here and in 1890 the population increased from 175 to more than 4,000 persons, many of them Italians, English, French, Germans and Chinese, in addition to the Mexican people who came from far away looking for a jobs as engineers, workers, machinists, miners or smelters. The chimney called “La Ramona” was made according to a design made by Gustav Eiffel. Because of its prosperity, this town was the first one with electricity and telephone services. El Progreso Minning Company left the town in 1912 and the town lost its progress when the available technology was not sufficient to take out the mineral veins still hidden in the mountains.

 The true nature lovers will find opportunities around La Paz for hiking, mountain biking and camping. Just about all of the beaches in the county are excellent spots for camping. Those near the city offer more services than those farther away, with less accessibility, but you may find virgin beauty at those sites less impacted by human presence.
